| Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is one of the most common disorders in women’s health. It affects 1 in 7 women and accounts for 10 to 15% of new referrals to gynaecologists and family physicians. Static magnetic field (SMF) therapy has been used for centuries to control pain. Theory suggests that the magnetic fields promote increased blood flow through the skin subcutaneous, muscular and ligamentous tissues. Therapy is delivered by placing magnets of different intensities (G=Gauss) on the skin over the affected areas or over pain pressure points. Those studies demonstrating a treatment effect have applied magnets directly over pain pressure points that were of sufficient magnetic field strength and exposure duration to reach the target organ. Ten areas located in the upper, middle and lower abdomen were palpated and for localised for tender areas, or “trigger points” by the same investigator. Deep palpitation was applied by using the thumb and the first two fingers pressed firmly enough to blanch the examiners finger nail. Devices were placed on the two areas most sensitive to palpitation.AA More>>>>> |
